Prickly Pear Clarinet Ensemble

San Antonio’s own clarinet choir! Formed in 2015 by Robert and Jean Lake, the pears have performed at four ClarinetFests (2016, 2017, 2019, and 2023), two Baylor clarinet festivals, TMEA, and at other venues in the San Antonio metro area.

We recently performed at the International Clarinet Association’s ClarinetFest 2023 and had a blast performing at ClarinetFest for the first time since 2019! This current 2023-24 season has many recording projects, wedding performances, caroling on the River Walk, public concerts, and much more planned! Follow us online and visit our website for more information!

D’Addario Woodwinds

I have been a fan of D'Addario for quite a while now. While I have played on D'Addario's Reserve Classic reeds exclusively in the past, I now also use the Reserve Evolution line as well.

For Eb Clarinet, I can not find a better reed than the Grand Concert Selects!

My mouthpiece of choice for both Bb and A is the Reserve Evolution EV10E Marble mouthpiece.

Alamo City Arts

The Alamo City Performing Arts is a non-profit organization that provides support to the Alamo City Dance Company, Alamo City Symphony Viva, and the Heart of Texas Concert Band.

The Alamo City Dance Company (ACDC) was founded in 1991 by Nancy Grossenbacher and Scott Conway and is a semi-professional company comprised of student company members. The Dance Company performs ballet classics, contemporary jazz works, classical modern, and even explores the realms of tap and ethnic dance.

In 2018 Alamo City Symphony Viva merged with Alamo City Performing Arts to become a multi-disincline Arts organization. Symphony Viva maintains a full concert schedule, while simultaneously providing live music for ACDC productions. Symphony Viva’s members range from professionals to collegiate musicians.

Founded in March of 2009, the Heart of Texas Concert Band (HTxCB) is an all-volunteer community band as diverse as San Antonio. The band performs 10+ concerts a season for enthusiastic and appreciative audiences of all ages. They are an all-volunteer band consisting of about 90 members.

FJD Music

My good friend Paco de Alba is a fantastic composer currently based in the Phoenix Metro area. His compositions cover a wide selection of genres including concertos, unaccompanied clarinet, chamber works, electro-acoustic works, and arrangements. Paco’s works can be challenging, but they are also oh-so rewarding!

He is also a wonderful clarinetist, teacher, and composer. Please take a look and listen to what he has to offer!

Luis Rossi Catalog of Latin American Music for Clarinet

The Luis Rossi catalog was created by Clariperu and is a free space that seeks to collect, promote, and disseminate the musical creations of Latin America. This catalog is a massive benefit to researchers, composers, teachers, students, and performers around the world. The musical history of Latin America as a whole is vastly under appreciated, not to mention the history of pieces for clarinet in Latin America.

There are currently more than one hundred and eighty works from seven Latin American countries on the catalog. Although the catalog is still under construction and, little by little, more works from the different countries are added, this catalog serves as a beautiful resource for those looking to expand their repertoire or learn more about pieces for clarinet that originated in other parts of the world.

Cayambis Music Press

In my never-ending research regarding compositions from Latin America, one of the trickiest obstacles I have come across is actually locating published copies of pieces. Cayambis Music Press is a company that works towards publishing and promoting some of the finest music from Latin America.

In addition to publishing music, Cayambis is involved in active recording with their Cayambis Sinfonietta. They currently represent over 50 composers from 15 countries and also regularly post blogs and podcasts for your enjoyment!
